Eating Healthily
Eating healthily means eating the right amount of a range of different foods to keep our body and mind healthy.
Everyone has foods that they like and foods that they don't like. Eating healthily means sometimes having to eat foods that we don't really like. Eating healthily also means not eating too much of the foods that we love. This is called eating a balanced diet.
Our body is made from the food that we eat. A healthy body needs healthy food. If we don't eat the right balance of foods we can get ill. Eating too much of the wrong foods can also be bad.
How much food we need to eat depends on our body size and how active we are. The food that we eat provides the energy to move our muscles. If we do a lot of exercise we usually need more food.
If we don't eat a healthy diet it can make people who look after us very upset.
We need different foods to live and be healthy. Sometimes we need to eat foods we don't like but usually we can avoid the ones we really hate. It is important that we try.
Eating Enough

It is important that we eat a balanced diet. Our bodies need a wide range of foods: carbohydrates and fat for energy, protein to build and repair our bodies and minerals and vitamins to make it all work properly.
Sometimes people deliberately try to eat less than they need. This is call dieting and is usually done by people who are over-weight. However, people who diet still need to ensure that they eat a healthy diet. People who do not eat enough food can become ill.
How much food we need to eat depends on our body size and how active we are. If we do a lot of exercise we usually need more food. If unsure how much food we should eat we can talk to a doctor or a dietician.

If we keep eating too much food our body will make lots of body fat. We need a little bit of body fat to be healthy but too much fat can make us ill. People who have too much body fat are called obese by doctors.

A healthy diet means eating the right balance of foods to look after my body.

chocolate and sweets
crisps and other snacks
sugary drinks
biscuits and cake
If I eat a healthy diet my parents and other adults may be pleased with me.
I can be healthy by eating a balanced diet. I will try to eat more vegetables, fruits and grains and less treats and unhealthy snacks.
