Arguments
Arguments are when two or more people speak with different opinions or understanding of things.
Arguments can be good or bad.
An argument is good when people:
talk confidently and calmly
explain their ideas and thinking
give reasons why they think the other person might be wrong
listen to other people's views
An argument is bad when people:
get angry or upset
contradict without giving a good reason
raise their voices or shout
don't listen
Having lots of bad arguments is not OK. People often do not like to be with someone who argues a lot. Adults may get cross with children who argue.
It is OK to have different opinions and to disagree with others when talking. It is not OK to argue loudly or when someone is angry or upset.
When I Argue
When I argue I am telling others that they are wrong about things.
It is OK if I say that I think that someone else is wrong. But there are good ways and bad ways I can do this.
An argument is good when I:
speak in a talking voice
explain my ideas and thinking about things
give reasons if I think someone is wrong
listen carefully to what others have to say
An argument is bad when I:
get angry or upset
just contradict without giving a useful reason
raise my voice or shout
don’t listen
Having lots of bad arguments is not OK. If I argue a lot adults may get cross with me.
It is OK if I disagree with others and tell them in a talking voice. It is not OK if I argue loudly, get angry or make others upset.
