Introduction
These boards support children with limited social communication and confidence who need visual reinforcement to seek help from adults. They are also useful in pre-school settings with young children. Many children can become distressed or even exhibit challenging behaviour when unable to communicate their needs. These resources can help the child; by explicitly and visually signposting them to the most appropriate adult who can assist them. For a few children they may rely on pointing at the image representing their need. Some of the resources have images that should work for most children. However, some children, particularly those on the autistic spectrum, may need more individualised images. These often need to be a photograph of the actual place or the specific thing. Sometimes photographs may also need to include the child.
