What's involved?
A quick fire verbal circle game where players say Zip, Zap or Boing. The game is useful as a fun warm up activity and promotes listening skills and social participation.
What's required?
You need 6 or more players to make the game work but no equipment is required.
How to play:
Players sit or stand in a circle.
One person is chosen to start and says either Zip or Zap to another player. But they must follow these rules:
Zip can be said to a person next to them either on their right or left. The Zip is accompanied by the player holding both hands together and pointing at their 'target'
Zap can be said to a person across from them. The person saying Zap needs to make good eye contact to ensure that the receiving player knows they are next. The Zap is accompanied by the player holding both hands together and pointing at their 'target'
The person receiving the Zip or Zap must immediately say Zip or Zap to another player or be out because of hesitation. They also have the choice of saying Boing! using the following rule:
A player can say Boing after receiving a Zip or a Zap. This rebounds the play back to the last player. The Boing is accompanied by pulling the hands apart in a sweeping gesture.
Getting out:
Saying a Zip to anyone other than someone next to them
Saying Zap back to the person who just passed a Zap to you or someone sat next to you
Hesitation or substitution when answering
When out the player sits out the rest of the game
Finishing the game:
When only two players are left
After an agreed time e.g. five minutes
Notes:
This is a challenging game suitable for older primary and secondary aged students.
